Privacy Policy: Zephyr Media Center
Effective 3 June 2026. Last updated 3 June 2026.
Zephyr Media Center ("the app") is a local media player for Android. It plays the audio, video and photos stored on your device, your home network and your personal cloud. This policy explains what the app accesses, the limited data that third parties collect when you use the free version, how that data is used, and the rights you have. It is written to comply with the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), and Google Play's User Data policy and Data safety requirements.
1. Who we are (the data controller)
This app is provided by the developer of Zephyr Media Center ("Zephyr", "we", "us"), package
com.zephyrmediacenter.app. For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights, please
contact contact@zephyrmc.com.
2. Data safety summary
This summary corresponds to the declarations in the app's Google Play Data safety section.
- Data the app itself collects or sends to us: none. The app has no account system and does not transmit your media or library to Zephyr.
- Data collected by third parties (free version only): Google AdMob may collect a device advertising identifier, coarse device and diagnostic information, and in-app interactions, in order to deliver and measure adverts and to prevent fraud.
- Data shared: only the data described above, with Google, for advertising in the free version. We do not sell personal information.
- Encryption in transit: network requests (adverts, your own network or cloud sources, and store purchases) use encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) wherever the endpoint supports it.
- Deletion: uninstalling the app removes all local data. You can also reset or delete your advertising identifier in the Android settings. See section 8.
3. What the app accesses on your device
To work, the app reads content and uses permissions locally. This information is not sent to us.
- Photos, videos and audio, through the Android media permissions (or "All files / Manage media" if you grant it), so the app can list, organise and play your files. It reads file names, folders, durations, sizes and embedded metadata (such as EXIF) on the device only.
- Network shares and personal cloud (a Pro feature). When you add a source, the app connects directly from your device using the address and credentials you enter. Those credentials are stored on your device.
- Permissions used: media and storage access (to read and play your files); internet and network access (for your sources, casting, and adverts in the free version); biometric or device-credential access (to protect the optional on-device vault, where the check happens on the device and we never receive your biometrics or PIN); and a foreground-service and notification permission (to keep playback running with controls).
4. Information collected by third-party services
Google AdMob (adverts, free version only)
The free version of the app shows adverts supplied by Google AdMob, limited to the browse screens on phones and tablets. Adverts are never shown during playback, and are not shown on TV. To deliver, personalise (where permitted) and measure adverts, and to prevent fraud, Google's advertising technology may collect your device advertising identifier, coarse device and diagnostic data, IP address and advert interactions. Please see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and the Google Privacy Policy. The one-time Pro upgrade removes adverts and this data collection.
Google Play Billing and Google Play services
Purchases, such as the one-time Pro upgrade, are processed by Google Play Billing. We receive confirmation of your entitlement, but we do not receive or store your payment details. Google Play may also collect standard, largely aggregated app statistics and crash diagnostics at the platform level, governed by Google's own policies.
The app does not embed any third-party analytics or advertising software other than as described above.
5. How information is used
- To provide the features you ask for: browsing and playing your media, and organising albums, favourites, the vault and the recycle bin, all on the device.
- To connect to the network or cloud sources you configure (Pro).
- By Google, to deliver and measure adverts in the free version, and to process Pro purchases.
6. Legal bases for processing (users in the EEA and UK)
- Performance of a contract, or steps taken at your request, to provide the app's features and process the purchases you make.
- Consent, for personalised adverts where consent is required. You can manage this through your device's advert settings and any consent prompt shown to you.
- Legitimate interests, to show non-personalised adverts in the free version, to keep the app secure and to prevent fraud, balanced against your rights and freedoms.
7. Sharing and the sale of personal information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising beyond the AdMob processing described in section 4. We share data only with Google, for advertising in the free version and for payments, and where we are required to do so by law. Under the CCPA and CPRA, we do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined. You still have the rights set out in section 9.
8. Data retention and deletion
Your settings, custom albums, favourites, hidden items, vault entries and source credentials are stored locally on your device, and are kept until you change or remove them. Uninstalling the app deletes this local data. You can reset or delete your advertising identifier under Android Settings, in the Privacy or Ads section. As we hold no personal data about you on our servers, there is no account for us to delete. For any request or question, please write to contact@zephyrmc.com.
9. Your rights
If you are in the EEA or the UK, the GDPR gives you the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw your consent at any time. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
If you are in California, the CCPA and CPRA give you the right to know what personal information is collected, to have it deleted, to have it corrected, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. You will not be treated differently for exercising these rights.
To exercise any right, please contact contact@zephyrmc.com. Because most data stays on your device, you can also act directly: hide or delete items, empty the recycle bin, remove sources, reset your advertising identifier, or uninstall the app.
10. International data transfers
The third-party providers we rely on (Google) may process data in countries other than your own. Where this is required, such transfers rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, as described in those providers' policies.
11. Security
Connections to your network and cloud sources use the protocols and credentials you configure, over encrypted transport where this is supported. The optional vault is protected behind your device's biometric or lock-screen authentication. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but the app is built to keep your media on your device and under your control.
12. Children
Zephyr Media Center is a general-audience media player. It is not directed at children under the age of 13, or the minimum age required in your country. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe that a child has provided personal information, please contact us and we will address it.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves, or as the law changes. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, give notice within the app or on this page.
14. Contact
